Coronavirus – Know The Facts!
Coronavirus- Know the facts so you can protect yourself, your family and those you love.
You can’t turn on the television without being flooding with information. And although it can be overwhelming, it is not the time to panic. It is the time to know the real facts, so you can reassess your everyday activities and make adjustments. The goal is to lower your exposure to crowds and therefore lowers your risk of catching (or spreading) it.
The CDC has been doing an excellent job of updating information daily. Please be sure to get your facts from government sites such as cdc or the World Health Organization.
Currently there is no vaccine to prevent the spread of the disease. Our best defense is prevention!
The Best Way to Prevent Illness is to Avoid being Exposed
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. It is spread between people who are in close contact with one another. Recommendations have been made to stay 3-6 feet away from others, whenever possible.
It is spread through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. It can also live on hard surfaces like handrails, elevator buttons etc for a few hours to a day. This is why it is imperative to wash your hands as often as possible. AND try not to touch your face.
Older Adults are More Susceptible
So are those adults with severe underlying chronic medical conditions. These include heart or lung disease as well as diabetes. It also includes anyone with immunity issues, or taking an immunosuppressant . These individuals are at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.
Please consult with your health care provider if you have any questions about your health.
This might be a time to consider bringing in a caregiver for a parent or elderly family member. Someone to help them with everyday living activities, so they don’t have to be out and about. It can also be a great idea to have someone with your elderly loved ones during this time so they are not alone or isolated.
